Setting up a new website...

Sat Feb 28, 2004, 8:07 PM
I've wanted to sell my artwork for a while now, and I think I've found a site that fits the bill: check it out and tell me what you think. [link] Click on "Artisans & Craftsmen" on the tabs at the top. Then click ";photography" on the side menu. I'm the first one.

Why not sell through deviantprints.com? :?

Whoa. :o

I just caught the prices there. Whoa .. 'spensive.
:iconryutora:
I must say, they are expensive, but not without reason. I do hope you start to get something coming through.

(Nice spot on the page, well done on that!)

Welcome to the idiots emporium...on the left, you can see the counter that counts how many prats are on Earth.

Press Alt+Ctrl+Del for more pageviews!

I have 3 very good reasons why nobody should bother selling on Devprints.

1) 50% commission: in spite of the fact that they print it for you, it doesn't nearly make up for the difference between their commission and the usual 20 or 30% for most art galleries (except Zazzle, damn 90% pirates). They are really and truly ripping you off. As for architecturals.net, I think they take 30%.

2) Monthly Fee: Art galleries which take flat monthly fees from their artists are set of in one of two ways: either they make the majority of their money from their artists instead of their buyers (in other words, the average artist loses money), or they cater to brand name artists who will be guaranteed to sell lots of artwork. I am not a brand name artist (yet ;) ), and I certainly wouldn't sign up for a gallery where I am likely to lose money.

3) DevArt's demographic: The majority of people who buy from DevPrints are, not surprisingly, DevArt Artists. Let us think for a moment about what group of people DevArt cater's to. That's right: broke teenagers. This site is designed for people too poor to pay for their own domain name. What, pray tell, is the use of trying to sell artwork to that group. Try this, go on the DevPrints forum, and post something to the effect of "Who Makes Money?". Ask how many pictures they've sold. You'll get a lot of responses of "zero", "zilch", " none", and a lot more to the effect of " three, but I bought 'em myself".

~QuoiQueCeSoit and I are not related...the last names thing is merely coincidental. :-P

A'yup. They are expensive, but that's a typical professional fee. You're probably used to the prices on DevPrints, which are driven through the floor by low demand and broke customers. :D

"(Nice spot on the page, well done on that!)" Hahaha! You noticed! I had titled it "Leonid Studios" until I realised that they were sorted alphabetically :D Puttin' that name to good use.

I just caught your reasons against DevPrints. And I guess it makes sense, too.

But hey, at least DevPrints . com have dirt cheap, high quality prints. =P I won't be finding any of those are your site.
:iconarivl:
Too true. On top of that, on my site, you can only buy my photos. :-P
